(CEO and President: Nobumitsu Taniguchi), headquartered in Arakawa-ku, Tokyo announced that the two companies have reached an agreement for the joint development and joint, domestic and global roll-out of an innovative GUI system—based on Acrodea's VIVID UI™, and VectorPadā¢ developed on Appside's Touch Detection System (TDS) technology—that delivers a new user interface.
In recent years, the operation of electronic appliances housing many functions has involved buttons to select functions, keys to input alphanumeric characters, switches that move vertically and horizontally, and pointers to designate positions directly. Any unit to be operated, in fact, has been equipped with a variety of input methods according to the intended operation. Convenient user interfaces have been achieved in combination with a graphical user interface that employs the aid of graphical expression for audiovisual effects to address the increasing complexity of operations.
By leveraging the expertise associated with user interfaces belonging to both companies, Acrodea and Appside plan to deliver a GUI system that can detect subtle human operating touch and thus enable instinctive manipulation. Since this system can generate analog operating feedback, a user-friendly GUI can graphically express displacement from direct pointing, and manipulation intensity from the adjusted magnitude of variable-resistance switches. The two companies intend to roll out the utility value of this new GUI system domestically and internationally.

VIVID UI is a user interface platform developed by Acrodea for mobile phones, and represents innovative middleware that can integrate various types of multimedia content, such as still pictures, 3D graphics, animation, and video. VIVID UI enables mobile phones that can be readily customized with graphically enhanced menus and standby screens.
The VIVID UI authoring tool incorporates features for creating menu transitions through a visual context, as well as for menu content emulation. By using this tool, handset manufacturers and content providers can easily create compatible content with a wealth of expression.
