November 12, 2007 (Tokyo, Japan)—Acrodea, Inc. (CEO and President: Junya Tsutsumi), headquartered in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, and Bandai Networks Co., Ltd. (Representative Director and President: Satoshi Oshita), headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, announced the development of X-FORGE for Java, a Java application development environment based on X-FORGE 2007, a game development environment for handheld devices.
Announced in July 2007, the latest X-FORGE 2007 SDK (software development kit) offers the first compatibility for Open GL®ES 2.0 for the mobile gaming market, supports programmable shaders and scene graphs, and extracts maximum performance and function from system LSIs. Additional functions enable realistic 3D video expressions that were difficult to achieve with conventional 3D middleware. X-Forge 2007 has also promptly delivered compatibility with Open KODE as set forth by the Khronos Group, and supports the de facto standard 3D graphics API sets Open GL®ES 1.0/1.1/2.0 as a game engine universally compatible with all operating environments, and as a game development environment most suited for developers worldwide.
X-FORGE for Java is a development based on X-FORGE 2007. As a development environment for Java applications, X-FORGE for Java operates on all terminals installed with a Java execution environment. The graphics environment built into a terminal can be called directly. Java applications can be created with richer graphical expression more easily than before. A standard graphics library is provided, and the emulator is robust. Consequently, large programs, such as mega apps, can be tested satisfactorily, and no preparation is necessary for the graphics environment. Developers can work full-time on their creative effort. Content developed with X-FORGE for Java can be ported smoothly to X-FORGE 2007, which constitutes an efficient path for content asset usage.
Acrodea and Bandai Networks intend to distribute X-FORGE for Java globally, and have planned launches on the Web of a support site for content developers and a promotion site to endorse content distribution. The company will develop partner alliances with companies expressing keen interest in the service models.
Features of X-FORGE for Java |
・As a software development kit, X-FORGE Java comprises a class library, tools, sample programs, sample data, documentation, and reference API. ・The SDK provides functions for a scene graph, material, particles, collisions, math library, audio, etc. ・Supports key frame animation, parallel translation, rotation, zooming, particle skinning, hierarchical control, and compatible with various mapping; supports collision determining functions for sphere, box, height field, and CSG collider. For rendering, supports various light sources, including parallel lights, point lights, spot lights, and environmental lighting; supports various shading, including Z buffer shading, flat shading, smooth shading, and glow shading. ・X-FORGE for Java contains a tool set comparable to X-FORGE 2007, and can assist game development as a tool chain.
