Implemented to seven autumn-winter, three spring model

October 21, 2009 (Tokyo, Japan)—Among forthcoming au brand mobile telephones of KDDI, Inc. (President and Chairman: Tadashi Onodera), headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, seven autumn-winter 2009 models and three spring 2010 models have been implemented with VIVID UI and VIVID Movie developed by Acrodea, Inc. (CEO and President: Junya Tsutsumi), headquartered in Meguro-ku, Tokyo. These 10 models are also compatible with the MY Slide Video service on KDDI’s LISMO Video (see Attachment). MY Slide Video is based on Acrodea’s VIVID Communicator.

Following on the autumn-winter 2007 models, summer 2008 models, autumn-winter 2008 models, spring 2009 models, and summer 2009 models, the ten autumn-winter 2009 and spring 2010 models mark releases under the master license agreement announced in August 2007. By virtue of VIVID UI and VIVID Movie being embedded in the integrated platform KCP+ promoted by KDDI, manufacturers can efficiently create more attractive user interfaces with 3D graphics and Flash content.

VIVID UI for KDDI is deployed to the standby screen, whose pre-installed wallpapers can be enriched with 3D graphics, Flash, and the like. Moreover, VIVID UI enables the Furuchen service provided by KDDI for the full external and internal makeover of mobile handsets, and the Nakachen button for direct access to information sites and content from the main menu according to the lifestyle type selected—from within the Nakachen service that can be used to effortlessly modify the user interface. For corporate mobile phones, Nakachen for Business addresses menu customization according to each corporate account. The Quick Access menu enables immediate access to frequently used functions through the automatic re-sequencing of menus that agrees with user behavior. Following the implementation to two summer 2009 models, the feature is available on the ten autumn-winter 2009 and spring 2010 models. The automatic re-sequencing display of the Quick Access menu is enabled with the VIVID UI rendering engine.

VIVID Communicator has been deployed as the foundation for MY Slide Video, a video content service for generating original slideshow videos from photos taken by au mobile phones compatible with LISMO VIDEO. KDDI began offering MY Slide Video service in April, and created slideshows became available for presentment to compatible NTT Docomo handsets from compatible au handsets in August. Beginning in late November, a tie-up with Bravia Post Card (see note*) will allow My Slide Video from KDDI to display on a television set.

Plans call for the further release of mobile handsets implemented with VIVID UI and VIVID Movie and compatible with MY Slide Video in the future.

About VIVID UI
VIVID UI is a user interface platform developed by Acrodea principally for mobile phones, and represents innovative middleware that can integrate various types of multimedia content, such as still pictures, 3D graphics, animation effects, and video. VIVID UI enables mobile phones that can be readily customized with graphically enhanced menus and standby screens according to user preferences. The VIVID UI authoring tool incorporates features for creating menu transitions through a visual context, as well as for menu content emulation. By using this tool, handset manufacturers and content providers can easily create compatible content with a wealth of expression.

About VIVID Movie
Jointly developed by Acrodea and Silicon Studio Corporation (CEO: Takehiko Terada), headquartered in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, VIVID Movie is video compression-expansion software for mobile terminals. VIVID Movie achieves sophisticated video processing that can play rich movie content in memory-constrained and CPU performance-limited environments, such as mobile telephones and compact handheld devices. The technology is provided as middleware for mobile devices, and, in conjunction with VIVID UI, can deliver a highly expressive user interface with the adoption of movie content. The high video compression rate means an optimum solution can be achieved for downloaded content also.

About VIVID Communicator
Jointly developed by Acrodea and Megachips Corporation (CEO and President: Yukihiro Ukai), headquartered in Yodogawa-ku, Osaka, VIVID Communicator is a middleware solution that can generate self-playing slideshows by combining camera function and photo data. The implementation of media mixing technology enables audio, BGM, frames, text, etc., to be imported. Generated content can integrate text, images, and audio in an unprecedented arrangement.

About MY Slide Video
Offered by KDDI, MY Slide Video comprises a video content service for generating original slideshow videos. Photos taken by compatible au mobile phones are embedded into slideshow templates containing motion images and music. The service can easily generate slideshow style videos by embedding photos taken by users into a chosen slide template— thematically arranged for a specific season or event. The operation requires no complicated effort, and consists simply of selecting a preferred template and uploading the photos by email. The result is an original slideshow video containing high-resolution photos. By relaying the URL link via email and disclosing where the created video is stored for download, the authoring user can let friends and family enjoy the created video as a gift. For example, grandparents can receive a slideshow video of their grandchildren’s photos as a gift on their birthday.
